| TRY YOUR HAND AT DYING | Dying secrets. For most uses you would use say half tube of dye to 2" of water in normal pan. Most dyes contain more than one colour of dye crystals, they need to be brought to the boil first to disolve all crystals, for loose plumage or hair just take off the boil and immerse material, after say 15mins put in a couple of spoons of salt or an egg cup of vinegar which sets the colour.
When dying Black it is usually best to dye material Purple to start with and follow with Black dye. Some colours are best dyed in tepid temperature which keeps the cape skin supple, hotter dye bath results in brittle cape skin. It really can become a work of art. |
